The hands behind Our Golden Butta Embroidery :

Manjuri Kalita - Zardozzi Artisan.

Murshidabad, West Bengal | 15 years of craft

Zardozi — the royal art of metallic embroidery — lives in her fingers. Under her needle, dabka coils, sitara sparkles, and silk blooms into heirloom patterns once made for nawabs. She been practicing Zardozi for 15 years and brings Mughal-era metal embroidery to life with gold dabka, salma, and silk threads.

Trained by her mother, she specializes in intricate floral jaals and bridal motifs on silk and velvet. Each piece takes weeks of patient handwork under natural light. When you wear Manjuri’s work, you wear 15 years of riyaz, and a craft that refuses to fade.

Through Project Rangamaati, Manjuri now earns year-round orders. She learned the intricate embroidery from her Ma,then stitching by lantern light after school. Today, she stitches by daylight, training six next generation young women fron her neighborhood to keep the generational craft unbroken."

"Project Rangamaati's Bangali gaamchas woven by weavers from remote Bengal villages have been an experience in abundance. Longer than the regular ones - both Indian and western styles, these are robust (will last a lifetime, it seems), wearable like a stole, and the colours are so pretty amazing. I got 12 in my first lot and felt such happiness to gift these to friends and family.."
