Who influences her work and why: She says her dream to see her Children getting an education and leading a better Life inspires her the most, she is very happy to be able to send her daughter to school by doing Kantha Hand Embroidery on Sarees. It certainly makes her life easier than struggling to sell Vegetables or Household utensils Door to Door.
She draws her ideas from Nature around and her favorite Kantha Embroidery are those involving Flowers, figs Foliage and Birds.

Artist Statement : 
She feels proud and recognized when her hand embroidered Sarees on which she works for months are worn by art lovers across Bengal, India and Abroad.

Kusumlata learned Kantha Stitch hand embroidery from her Mother who used to do extensive Kantha Embroidery primarily for personal use and selling.

Artist Biography :
Kusumlata is 38 years old and lives in Majdhiya, Nadia, West Bengal. She has one daughter named Parul who is 8 years old and Subho her son is 5 years old.
Since the age of 14, she has been helping her Mother with stitchwork to earn and Support her family. Before getting associated with rangamaati, Kusumlata used to sell door to door a variety of products such as Vegetables, Household utensils, Flowers, etc.

Past 6 years. she has been doing Kantha Stitch Embroidery full time. She likes working with rangamaati because she is able to utilize the Kantha Stitch hand embroidery Skills as learned from her mother and the fact that she could work from home. This enables her to save money and time, as well as share more time with her daughter and son.

Her biggest dream is providing education to her both Children so that they could live a life of recognition and free from poverty as well.
